ADORE: The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.—Psalm 145.17-19

ADMIT: Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting!—Psalm 139.23-24

ASSURE: Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.—Hebrews 10.19-22

ACTIVATE: Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.—Isaiah 55.6-7

MESSAGE NOTES:

TITLE: THE RESPONSE TO CHRIST

SCRIPTURE READING: MARK 1.14-15

BIG IDEA: CHRIST COMES NEAR TO THOSE WHO STOP PRETENDING AND START BELIEVING

1. RESIST NEUTERING JESUS—MARK 8.31-33; 1.14-15

  • There are Christian today who emphasize the Cross without the Crown and others emphasize the Crown without the Cross

    • Where are you most tempted?

  • When Christians neuter Jesus’ Cross or Crown the world follows our lead

2. LOSE YOUR LIFE—MARK 8.34-38

  • 3 Aspects of Repentance

    • Death to Self-Centeredness (Mark 8.34)

      • Self-centeredness is weeded out of our lives by 3 habits—denial, death, and following

    • Death to Self-Safety (Mark 8.35)

    • Death to Self-Service (Mark 8.36-38)

      • Whatever you are living for is what you serve

3. BELIEVE IN CHRIST—MARK 5.25-43

  • True saving faith is accompanied by actions that match what we say we believe

  • Far too many people today want to turn faith into something instantaneous
